Rhyhorn

The Rhyhorn card, numbered 90/130, was released in the Base Set 2 expansion by Wizards of the Coast in 2000. This set served as a compilation release for the North American market, designed to make cards from the original Base Set and the Jungle expansion available again after the initial print runs began to sell out. The card features artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita, a foundational illustrator in the Pokémon Trading Card Game whose work defined the aesthetic of the early generations, focusing on a clear, creature-centric style that complemented the game's mechanics.

As a common Fighting-type card, this Rhyhorn was intended for functional deck building rather than rarity, providing players with a foundational creature for tactical play. The design process focused on translating the physical characteristics of the Pokémon, known for its heavy armor and rhino-like appearance, into the simplified 2D card format. Upon release, the set was received as a necessary utility product for players who had missed the initial launch, though it is often distinguished by collectors today by the small '2' symbol appearing alongside the expansion logo.
