Steelix

The Steelix card from the Cosmic Eclipse expansion, released in November 2019, represents a late-era entry in the Sun & Moon series. Cosmic Eclipse was designed as a massive, celebratory set intended to bridge the transition to the Sword & Shield era, incorporating a wide array of artwork styles and mechanics to appeal to both long-time fans and competitive players. The set is notable for its 'Character Rare' subset, which features Pokémon alongside their iconic trainers, though this particular Steelix card serves as a standard holo-rare addition to the main set list.

The design of this Steelix card adheres to the established aesthetic of the Sun & Moon block, utilizing the holographic foil treatment characteristic of rare cards from that period. Steelix, a Steel and Ground-type Pokémon introduced in the Johto region, is depicted here with an emphasis on its massive, metallic serpentine form. The artwork aims to capture the intimidating presence of the Pokémon, consistent with its lore as a creature that tunnels through mountains. Upon its release, it was received as a solid, playable inclusion for collectors focusing on the Sun & Moon era completion.
