Where it came from
The Steelix card from the Skyridge expansion was released in 2003 as part of the final set produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set is particularly significant to collectors as it was the last to utilize the e-Reader technology, which allowed players to scan the dot-code strips on the side of the cards to unlock mini-games and Pokédex entries on the Game Boy Advance.
Designed during the transition period of the TCG, the card features artwork by Midori Harada, who was a frequent contributor to the series during this era. The aesthetic reflects the clean, technical style favored in the e-Card series, emphasizing the metal-type attributes of Steelix. Because of the limited release of the Skyridge set near the end of the Wizards of the Coast partnership, it remains one of the most sought-after sets by enthusiasts due to its relative scarcity compared to earlier releases.
