Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2003 as part of the Skyridge expansion, this card represents the final installment of the E-Card Series produced for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It was designed to integrate with the Nintendo GameCube's Game Boy Player, utilizing a specialized dot-code reader on the left side of the card to trigger unique in-game content. This era of the hobby marked a transition in production management, as the set was published by Wizards of the Coast shortly before the license shifted back to The Pokémon Company.

The artwork for this Holo Rare Vaporeon was illustrated by Atsuko Nishida, one of the original designers of Pikachu and a long-time contributor to the series. Her approach sought to capture Vaporeon's fluid, aquatic nature, placing the character in a tranquil, watery environment consistent with the set's aesthetic themes. At the time of release, these cards were highly sought after for their mechanical utility, though they have since become prized by collectors for their limited print run and the scarcity of the late-stage E-Series sets.
