"Centone Di Sonate": Six Sonates Pour Violon Et Guitare

The Centone di Sonate consists of a collection of sonatas composed by Niccolò Paganini, originally written for violin and guitar during a period in the early 19th century when he was heavily involved with the latter instrument. These works were intended to display his virtuosic command over both the violin and guitar, bridging the gap between chamber music and the flamboyant style he later became legendary for as a soloist.

This specific recording on the Pathé label, catalog number ASDF 848, features the collaboration of violinist Régis Pasquier and guitarist Oscar Ghiglia. Released as part of a mid-20th-century effort to revive and record lesser-known chamber works by Paganini, the album was praised for the technical precision and tonal balance brought by the two performers, providing a refined and intimate interpretation of pieces that are often overshadowed by Paganini's more famous violin caprices.
