Grande Sonate En La Majeur Pour Guitare Et Violon, Tarentella En La Mineur, Six Sonates Opus 3 Pour Violon Et Guitare

This recording, released on the Pathé label under catalog number ASDF 849, captures a selection of Niccolò Paganini's chamber works for violin and guitar, specifically the Grande Sonate in A major and the Six Sonates Op. 3. These compositions highlight the idiosyncratic dual virtuosity that Paganini, himself a proficient guitarist, intended to showcase through the interplay of the two instruments rather than treating the guitar as a mere accompaniment.

The performances feature the French violinist Régis Pasquier and the Italian classical guitarist Oscar Ghiglia. Recorded during the mid-20th century, this release reflects the era's growing interest in revisiting Paganini's chamber music repertoire beyond his famous caprices. The collaboration is well-regarded for its technical precision and the sympathetic partnership between Pasquier’s lyrical phrasing and Ghiglia’s nuanced handling of the guitar parts, which remain central to the scholarly appreciation of these sonatas.
