Chant Grégorien: Acclamations Et Bénédictions

Released in 1965 by Decca under the catalog number 462.524, this recording captures the liturgical chants performed by the Chœur des Moines de l'Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes. Under the direction of Dom Joseph Gajard, the ensemble became internationally renowned for their rigorous scholarly approach to restoring the purity of Gregorian chant, moving away from the rhythmic interpretations that had become standard in earlier centuries.

The recording is part of a broader body of work from Solesmes, an abbey that served as the primary center for the revival of chant in the Roman Catholic Church following the research of the late 19th century. Dom Gajard, who served as choirmaster for over four decades, sought to emphasize the fluid, speech-like rhythm inherent in the original neumatic notation, an aesthetic that heavily influenced the preservation of plainchant globally throughout the mid-20th century.
