Where it came from
This recording captures the authentic liturgical tradition of the Benedictine monks of Saint-Maurice and Saint-Maur at Clervaux Abbey in Luxembourg. Produced in the mid-20th century, the album served as a medium to share the contemplative beauty of Gregorian chant with a global audience, emerging during a period of renewed interest in monastic music as a form of spiritual solace outside of the cloister.
The album is noted for its acoustic clarity, capturing the natural reverberation of the abbey’s stone architecture, which was essential to the monks' intent of providing an immersive, prayerful experience. While the release was modest and lacked a major commercial label, it became a reference point for enthusiasts of sacred vocal music, praised for its adherence to the Solesmes method of chant interpretation.
