Chant Grégorien Messe De La Septuagésime

Recorded in the mid-20th century, this release features the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Solesmes, a site globally recognized as the center of the twentieth-century Gregorian chant revival. The Abbey played a pivotal role in the musicological movement to restore the authentic performance practices of medieval plainchant, emphasizing a fluid, oratorical style that follows the natural rhythm of the Latin text rather than strict metrical timing.

This recording was released under the IPG label, which specialized in capturing the precise, meditative vocal performances characteristic of the Solesmes school. The production aimed to preserve the acoustic properties of the monastic environment, providing listeners with a devotional experience that mirrors the daily liturgy of the monks. It is regarded by liturgical scholars and audiophiles alike as a standard-setting representation of the Solesmes tradition.
