Chant Grégorien: Messe de Saint Martin

Released in 1973 by Radio Canada International, this recording features the Benedictine monks of the Abbaye de Saint-Benoît-du-Lac, a monastery located in Quebec, Canada. The project served as a documentation of the liturgical tradition preserved by the community, capturing the austere, meditative quality of the Gregorian chants that define their daily monastic life. It emerged during a period when the abbey was increasingly recognized for its cultural and spiritual contributions to the province.

The production was managed by the international arm of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which sought to distribute high-quality recordings of Canadian musical heritage to a global audience. The choral work is characterized by its adherence to the Solesmes method of chant interpretation, which emphasizes fluid rhythm and textual clarity. Upon its release, the recording was well-regarded by scholars of sacred music and enthusiasts of liturgical traditions for its authentic representation of the Saint-Benoît-du-Lac repertoire.
