Where it came from
Der Dorn was released in 2020 as a private press project by Swiss composer Balz Trümpy. As a self-released work, it reflects Trümpy's commitment to independent distribution and his departure from traditional label frameworks, allowing him full creative control over the experimental presentation of his compositions. The work serves as a personal exploration of contemporary avant-garde soundscapes, emphasizing minimalist textures and the idiosyncratic structural choices characteristic of his broader catalog.
The design of the release prioritizes a stark, utilitarian aesthetic that mirrors the introspective nature of the music within. By opting for a self-released, label-less format, Trümpy intentionally bypasses commercial standards, positioning the record as an archival artifact for listeners interested in his specific development within the Swiss contemporary music scene. It stands as a testament to the artist's focus on sonic purity rather than broad-market reach, resulting in a niche distribution that remains highly sought after by collectors of experimental and private press vinyl.
