Der Fidele Bauer / Der Vogelhandler

This recording was released as part of the Hörzu Exclusiv series, a label established by the popular German television guide magazine Hörzu in collaboration with EMI Electrola. These releases were designed to bring high-quality performances of operetta highlights to a mass audience at an accessible price point, often distributed through retailers rather than traditional record stores. The selection of repertoire reflects the enduring popularity of late 19th-century Viennese operetta in the German-speaking world during the mid-20th century.

The disc pairs selections from Leo Fall’s Der fidele Bauer and Carl Zeller’s Der Vogelhändler. The production features a cast of established singers, including mezzo-soprano Brigitte Fassbaender, who was early in her career, and the Singgemeinschaft Rudolf Lamy. The vocal performances are backed by conductor Carl Michalski, who was well-regarded for his work in the operatic and operetta repertoire. The recording captures a traditional, polished approach to these lighthearted works, focusing on clarity and melodic appeal to suit the tastes of the average listener of the era.
