Where it came from
Released by Philips during the mid-20th century, this record features the Mitglieder der Hamburger Bühnen performing classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales, including Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel. These recordings were part of a broader post-war initiative to preserve German cultural heritage and folklore through high-quality audio dramatizations, making them a staple in many German households during the era.
The production sought to bring the theatrical experience of the Hamburg stage to home listeners through immersive audio performances. By utilizing professional ensemble cast members, the record provided an accessible yet sophisticated interpretation of the tales that prioritized clear diction and emotive storytelling, reflecting the period's commitment to educational and culturally enriching children's entertainment.
