Le Merveilleux Voyage De Nils Holgersson

Released by Philips in the 1970s, this record serves as an auditory adaptation of Selma Lagerlöf’s 1906 classic, The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. The production emerged during a period when dramatized audio storytelling remained a primary vehicle for children’s literature in France, utilizing a collaborative cast including Eric Damain and Macha Béranger to capture the fantastical journey of a boy transformed into a tomte and his travels across Sweden with a flock of wild geese.

The production design reflects the mid-century European focus on immersive sonic theater, prioritizing vocal performance and orchestral arrangement to compensate for the absence of visual media. By utilizing the talents of stage and radio performers like Jacques Lalande and Jean-Louis Maury, the record was crafted to maintain the charm of the original prose while fitting the technical constraints of the long-play format, ultimately becoming a staple of French youth programming during that era.
