Dvorak: Streicher-Serenade E-dur op. 22 / Suk: Streicher-Serenade Es-dur op. 6

Released in 1981 on the EMI Electrola label, this recording brings together two cornerstone works of the string orchestra repertoire: Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade in E major, Op. 22, and Josef Suk’s Serenade in E-flat major, Op. 6. The album showcases the Polish Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Jerzy Maksymiuk, an ensemble that gained significant international acclaim during the 1970s and 1980s for their refined, precise, and emotionally resonant performances.

The production reflects the high standards of EMI’s classical division, aiming to capture the lush, lyrical textures characteristic of these late-Romantic Czech compositions. Maksymiuk’s approach is often noted for its clarity and rhythmic vitality, providing a fresh perspective on these familiar scores. At the time of its release, the recording was well-received by critics for its balance between the intimacy of chamber music and the symphonic scale of string orchestration, serving as a testament to the Polish Chamber Orchestra's stature in the global classical music scene.
