Where it came from
Released in 1973 under the Für Dich label, this compilation record represents the enduring popularity of classic German folk tales during the mid-twentieth century. The record was produced to provide families with accessible audio versions of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, capitalizing on a post-war cultural movement that sought to preserve traditional children's literature through the then-booming medium of vinyl storytelling.
The design and production of this release prioritize the functional, educational utility characteristic of children's labels like Für Dich. Rather than seeking individual artistic prestige, the record focuses on standard, clear narration of canonical stories like Hänsel und Gretel and Schneewittchen. It reflects a pedagogical effort to integrate bedtime storytelling into the household technology of the era, providing a consistent, low-cost entertainment source that was widely adopted in German-speaking households.
