Where it came from
Released in 2015 by the French label Season of Mist, 'IX - Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends' serves as the fourth studio album by the Norwegian band Shining. The album marks a significant stylistic evolution for the ensemble, moving further away from their earlier avant-garde jazz roots toward a cohesive, aggressive fusion of industrial metal and progressive rock that they termed 'blackjazz'.
The album was produced with an emphasis on massive, layered soundscapes intended to mirror themes of systemic decay and societal collapse. It was composed under the leadership of multi-instrumentalist Jørgen Munkeby, who sought to blend virtuosic saxophone arrangements with heavy, rhythmic guitar work. Upon its release, the record was noted by critics for its bold experimentation and high-energy production, solidifying the band's reputation within the extreme metal underground.
