Where it came from
This recording features Kapelle Grossmann, a quintessential Swiss Ländlerkapelle led by Karl Grossmann. Produced on the private Grossmann label, the record serves as a significant document of the Alpine folk music tradition, specifically the style centered around the compositions of the legendary Kasi Geisser. These works are foundational to the Swiss 'Innerschweizer' style, characterized by rhythmic precision and a distinct harmonic approach to the Schwyzerörgeli and violin.
The design of the record reflects the vernacular aesthetic of mid-20th-century Swiss regional releases, focusing on functional documentation rather than elaborate graphic design. By highlighting the collaborative efforts of Grossmann and Geisser, the record was intended to preserve and disseminate the repertoire for local dance halls and enthusiasts of traditional Alpine instrumental music, a genre that has maintained a devoted, albeit specialized, following through the decades.
