Kiui Sopet Entai / Kipiritit Kokimo Komi

Released in 1981 on the Chelumba label, this record represents a significant artifact of the benga and folk-fusion movements emerging from Kenya's Rift Valley. Taptechok A. Soi and the Buret Band utilized the local musical vernacular of the Kipsigis people, blending traditional lyrical storytelling with the evolving pop sensibilities of the era. The record serves as a sonic documentation of regional cultural expression during a period of transition in the East African independent music scene.

The design and production of this release were driven by the need to capture authentic rural performances for a wider urban audience. Chelumba records played a crucial role in distributing these tracks, favoring a minimalist aesthetic that focused on the strength of the instrumental composition and the vocal cadence of the Buret Band. While the label operated with limited resources, the recording is widely respected among ethnomusicologists for preserving the unique rhythmic structures characteristic of the band's signature style.
