Where it came from
Released in 1991, this self-titled debut by Brazilian singer-songwriter Kininho Dornelles represents the independent spirit of the early nineties Brazilian music scene. Operating outside the major label system, Dornelles produced this work as a private press project, which allowed him to maintain creative autonomy over his blend of local rhythmic structures and contemporary pop sensibilities.
The album serves as a singular artifact of Dornelles' specific artistic vision during a transitional period for independent music in Brazil. Because it was self-released and lacked the distribution infrastructure of a major record company, the pressing is widely considered a rarity today. The design and production reflect a grassroots effort to capture the artist's personal sound, which has since earned it a small but dedicated following among collectors of obscure South American private press recordings.
