Klaviersonaten = Sonates Pour Piano C-dur Hob. XVI/48 Es-dur Hob. XVI/49 C-dur Hob. XVI/50 D-dur Hob. XVI/51

This recording features the Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder performing four of Joseph Haydn's piano sonatas, specifically those cataloged by Hoboken as XVI/48 through XVI/51. Released under the Swiss label Ex Libris during the 1970s, this LP is part of a broader commitment by Buchbinder to the classical keyboard repertoire, reflecting a period in his career when he was intensely focused on documenting the structural clarity and wit of Haydn’s mature sonata form.

The production aligns with the high fidelity standards common to European classical label releases of the mid-20th century, which often prioritized natural room acoustics and a balanced, intellectual interpretation of the score. Buchbinder, known for his rigorous scholarly approach to the Viennese masters, intended to capture the nuance of the fortepiano's evolution into the modern instrument, and the recording was received by critics as a technically assured contribution to the Haydn discography.
