Klaviersonaten - Sonates Pour Piano G-Dur Hob.XVI/27 Es-Dur Hob.XVI/28 F-Dur Hob.XVI/29

This recording of Joseph Haydn's piano sonatas was released by the Swiss label Ex Libris, a company known for its close ties to the cultural life of Switzerland and its commitment to quality classical repertoire. Rudolf Buchbinder, a pianist celebrated for his scholarly approach to the Austro-German canon, recorded these specific sonatas—Hoboken XVI/27, 28, and 29—during a period in his career when he was deepening his interpretive relationship with the classical style. The recording serves as a testament to the clarity and structural precision he brought to Haydn's writing.

The design of the record, characteristic of the Ex Libris aesthetic during the mid-to-late 20th century, prioritizes a functional and austere presentation intended to frame the music without distraction. By focusing on these specific G major, E-flat major, and F major sonatas, the release captures a snapshot of Haydn's middle-period keyboard writing, which balances the playful wit of the composer's early works with the more complex thematic developments that would characterize his later compositions. It was received by critics as a reliable and technically sound interpretation, fitting for the label's reputation for providing accessible classical recordings to a broad audience.
