Klaviersonaten - Sonates Pour Piano G-moll Hob. XVI/44 C-moll Hob. XVI/20 D-dur Hob. XVI/33

Released under the Swiss record label Ex Libris in the 1970s, this recording features the Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder performing three of Joseph Haydn's piano sonatas. The selection includes the Sonata in G minor (Hob. XVI/44), the Sonata in C minor (Hob. XVI/20), and the Sonata in D major (Hob. XVI/33). Ex Libris was a prominent Swiss subscription-based record club that frequently collaborated with established classical musicians to provide high-quality repertoire for its members.

Rudolf Buchbinder is widely regarded as one of the preeminent interpreters of Haydn's piano works. His approach to these sonatas emphasizes structural clarity and the stylistic transitions of the late 18th century, balancing Haydn's wit with a sophisticated technical precision. This specific pressing serves as a representative example of the mid-century European classical recording industry, reflecting a period when Haydn’s keyboard sonatas were being increasingly integrated into the standard concert and recorded canon.
