Laminar

Laminar was released in 2000 on the Cologne-based label Ware, a vital imprint for the minimal techno and microhouse movements of the turn of the millennium. Founded by Reinhard Voigt and Jörg Burger, Ware became a platform for artists to explore clinical, rhythmically precise electronic music that prioritized texture and space over conventional dance floor structures. Benjamin Brunn, an artist deeply embedded in this aesthetic, crafted the tracks on Laminar to emphasize subtle shifts in synthesis and sound design, aligning perfectly with the label's focus on the intersection of experimental electronica and reduced techno.

The design of the release reflects the minimalist ethos that defined the Ware catalog during this period. The artwork, characterized by its austere and understated visual presentation, serves as an extension of the label's identity, which often favored clean lines and abstract geometric motifs. Critics and listeners of the time generally received the record as a representative example of the German minimal scene's transition into the new century, valuing it for its intricate production techniques and its contribution to the evolving landscape of avant-garde club music.
