Laminated Skies

Laminated Skies, released in 2022 on the Def Pressé label, serves as a significant collaborative project between the Washington D.C.-based rapper Raw Poetic and the prolific producer Damu the Fudgemunk. Born out of a long-standing creative partnership, the album represents a continuation of their exploration into abstract hip-hop, blending complex, jazz-infused instrumentation with Raw Poetic’s intricate, stream-of-consciousness lyrical delivery.

The album's design and conceptual framework lean into the duo's signature aesthetic of cerebral, atmospheric hip-hop that prioritizes sonic texture and rhythmic experimentation. By opting for a release on Def Pressé, the record fits into a broader catalog of independent music that emphasizes artistic autonomy. Upon its arrival, the album was received by critics as a mature development of the duo's earlier work, praised for its dense production layers and the cohesive vision maintained throughout the project.
