Where it came from
Lech Lamidbar, released on the Israel label under catalog number 2002, serves as a significant artifact of the mid-century folk dance movement. Produced to accompany the growing international interest in Israeli folk dance, the recording captures the specific instrumentation and rhythmic structures necessary for dance troupes and communal gatherings, reflecting a period when folk music acted as a primary cultural bridge for the young state.
The Israel label specialized in documenting these traditional and choreographed dance melodies, utilizing arrangements that prioritized clear, steady tempos to ensure utility for dancers. While individual personnel credits for this specific release are often obscured by the archival nature of these folk music pressings, the production was designed to uphold the ethos of collective identity and cultural preservation that defined the folk dance scene of that era.
