Madrigali E Scherzi Musicali Per Voce Sola

Released in 1967 on the French label Valois, this recording features the compositions of Claudio Monteverdi, a pivotal figure in the transition from Renaissance to Baroque music. The collection highlights Monteverdi's mastery of the madrigal form, showcasing his ability to blend vocal expression with instrumental accompaniment. The album emerged during a period of renewed interest in historically informed performance practices, as musicians began re-examining the vocal and instrumental textures of seventeenth-century Italian repertoire.

The ensemble, led by baritone Bernard Kruysen alongside Huguette Dreyfus on harpsichord and Christian Lardé on flute, sought to capture the intimate and emotive nature of these secular works. Valois was highly regarded for its commitment to high-fidelity sound and intellectual rigor in its classical catalog, often choosing artists who brought a nuanced, scholarly approach to their interpretations. Upon its release, the recording was praised for the technical precision of the instrumentalists and Kruysen’s careful attention to the nuances of the Italian text.
