Neue Teutsche Lieder / Chansons, Madrigale, Villanelle

Released in 1963 by Archiv Produktion, this recording serves as a scholarly exploration of secular vocal music from the Renaissance period. The album features works by the Franco-Flemish composer Roland de Lassus, a towering figure of the late Renaissance, whose sophisticated mastery of counterpoint and emotional nuance defined the musical language of his era. Produced as part of the label's commitment to historical performance practice, the collection captures a bridge between the complex polyphony of the 16th century and the emerging melodic sensitivities of the time.

The performances by the Singgemeinschaft Rudolf Lamy, conducted by Rudolf Lamy, reflect the mid-century German tradition of choral research and archival fidelity. Lamy aimed to present these madrigals and villanelles with precise, clean articulation, eschewing the romanticized choral styles that had dominated earlier decades. The recording was well-regarded among classical music critics for its technical clarity and for bringing lesser-known secular repertoire to a wider audience, solidifying Archiv Produktion’s reputation for rigorous musicological standards.
