Where it came from
Released in 1984 under the Documentatiecentrum Voor Orgel label, this recording features Anne Froidebise performing a collection of traditional Christmas carols on the historic organ located in the Church of Saint-Apollinaire in Bolland, Belgium. The project was conceived as an archival effort to capture the unique tonal characteristics of the instrument within its authentic ecclesiastical setting, emphasizing the preservation of regional organ music traditions.
The recording highlights the technical artistry of Froidebise, who was noted for her dedication to the Belgian organ repertoire. By focusing on the interplay between the acoustic properties of the Bolland church and the specific registration of the organ, the production aims to evoke a historical atmosphere. It remains a specialized title, valued primarily by organ enthusiasts and collectors of European liturgical music who prioritize historical instrument documentation.
