Where it came from
This recording captures the Ogden High School A Capella Choir during their 1959 Christmas season, a time when regional high school music departments frequently partnered with custom pressing services like Century Record Mfg. Co. to preserve their performance history. These pressings were primarily intended for the students, faculty, and local families as commemorative keepsakes rather than for commercial distribution, reflecting the mid-century tradition of documenting academic extracurricular achievements.
The album serves as a preserved artifact of choral education in the late 1950s, representing the repertoire and vocal techniques favored by secondary school music directors of the era. As a custom release from Century Records—a company known for documenting small-scale productions across the United States—the record is valued today not for its original public reception, but for its role as a primary source documenting the pedagogical and social climate of Ogden, Utah, during the post-war period.
