Where it came from
Released in 1985 by Deutsche Grammophon, this collection of operatic choruses features the Chor der Deutschen Oper Berlin under the baton of Giuseppe Sinopoli. It was produced during a period when Sinopoli was gaining significant international acclaim for his intense and analytical approach to the standard Germanic and Italian operatic repertoire, solidifying his relationship with the Berlin ensemble.
The album includes choral highlights from iconic works such as Wagner's 'Tannhäuser' and 'Der fliegende Holländer', as well as Verdi's 'Nabucco' and 'Aida'. Deutsche Grammophon designed this release to showcase the technical precision of the Berlin chorus against Sinopoli’s distinct, often highly nuanced interpretative style, which prioritized clarity and dramatic emotional depth over conventional romantic tropes.
