Orgelwerke Teil 2 (Fantasie Und Fuge C-moll Op.29 | Variationen Und Fuge Fis-moll Op.73)

Released in 1968 by the German label Da Camera, this recording of Max Reger’s organ works was part of a broader archival effort to document the composer's dense, contrapuntal output. The performance features Heinz Lohmann, a scholar and organist who dedicated much of his career to the interpretation of Reger's complex scores. The production was intended to showcase the organ as a symphonic instrument capable of extreme harmonic shifts, reflecting the label's commitment to high-fidelity captures of European pipe organs from that era.

Max Reger’s compositions, including the Fantasie und Fuge Op. 29 and the Variationen und Fuge Op. 73, represent the pinnacle of late-Romantic organ writing, characterized by a bridge between traditional Bach-inspired structural rigor and chromatic modernism. This specific Da Camera release was produced for a specialized audience of classical music connoisseurs and organ enthusiasts. It is recognized for its technical clarity in recording, which was necessary to render the thick textures and rapid pedal work inherent in Reger’s challenging arrangements.
