Orient-Occident / Momenti - Omaggio A Joyce / Continuo / Transition 1

Released in 1968 under the Philips Prospective 21e Siècle series, this collection features seminal works of the European avant-garde movement. The record serves as a pivotal document of the era's experimentation with electronic music, musique concrète, and serialism, emerging from the influential studios of the mid-20th century where composers sought to expand the boundaries of traditional sound through magnetic tape and early synthesis.

The album includes Iannis Xenakis’s 'Orient-Occident,' which was originally composed as a score for a film about ancient civilization, reflecting the composer's interest in architectural sound structures. Alongside pieces by Luciano Berio, Bruno Maderna, and Mauricio Kagel, the collection highlights the intellectual rigor of the period. The record was curated to showcase the technical precision of the label's recording standards, garnering respect among contemporary music scholars for its definitive capture of these complex, often abrasive soundscapes.
