Primavera Perdida / Porque Choraste Por Mim / Pelas Ruas Da Cidade / Saudades De Mil Lembranças

Released in 1969 on the Alvorada label, this EP serves as a quintessential artifact of the Fado tradition during a transformative era for Portuguese music. José Pracana, a celebrated guitarist and composer, was deeply embedded in the Lisbon Fado scene, known for his technical virtuosity and his role as a guardian of the traditional Fado sound. This recording captures the melancholic and evocative atmosphere central to the genre, reflecting the intimate style that defined the casas de fado of that period.

The EP features a selection of tracks that highlight Pracana’s instrumental and vocal prowess, set against the backdrop of the socio-cultural landscape of late 1960s Portugal. As an artist, Pracana was instrumental in preserving the authenticity of Fado, resisting commercial modernization in favor of stylistic purity. The cover design and production values are characteristic of Alvorada’s mid-century output, which prioritized the aesthetic of the Fado performer as a soulful, solitary figure, an image that resonated strongly with contemporary listeners seeking a connection to national identity.
