Where it came from
Released in 1983 on the Funny label, 'Quiero Que Me Quieras (A Mi Manera)' captures the vibrant sound of Charanga Tipica Tropical during a period when the charanga style—characterized by the prominent use of the flute and violins—remained a staple of the Latin dance music scene. The record was produced to cater to dance halls and radio airplay, reflecting the specific regional preferences for upbeat tropical arrangements that blended traditional Cuban instrumentation with contemporary production sensibilities of the early eighties.
The album reflects the collaborative spirit of the era's regional studio scene, where ensembles focused on tight arrangements of romantic boleros and upbeat sones. As a catalog release on the Funny label, the work is representative of the independent music industry's efforts to distribute tropical music to a wider audience. While specific design credits for the sleeve art are often anonymous in archival records from this niche, the aesthetic follows the standard visual language of tropical music covers from that time, emphasizing the band’s presence and a colorful, inviting graphic style intended to stand out in record shop bins.
