Where it came from
Released by the label Chor Music under the catalog number CM 2016, this recording features the 36er Wrede Konzertorgel, a mechanical fairground organ built by the firm of Carl Wrede. Wrede was a notable manufacturer based in Hanover, Germany, known for crafting sophisticated pneumatic organs that were staple attractions in European traveling fairs and amusement parks throughout the early 20th century.
The recording serves as a historical document of the mechanical organ's distinct aesthetic, capturing the intricate sound profiles achieved by Wrede’s pipe arrangements. These instruments were engineered to simulate the grandeur of a full orchestral ensemble through automated rolls, reflecting an era of musical innovation where mechanical precision met the popular demand for public entertainment. The reception of such recordings is largely rooted in the preservationist community, appealing to those interested in the evolution of automated musical instruments.
