Serenade Voor Fluit, Viool En Cello / Concertino / Sonatine Voor Fluit En Altviool / Muziek Voor Vijf Instrumenten

Released by the Belgian label Alpha in the mid-1970s, this recording captures a specific intersection of mid-20th-century Belgian contemporary classical music. The album serves as a curated selection of works by four prominent Flemish composers: Victor Legley, Marcel Poot, Jef Maes, and David Van De Woestijne. These figures were instrumental in the development of Belgian modernism following the Second World War, often navigating the balance between traditional structure and the evolving avant-garde sensibilities of the era.

The album is representative of Alpha's commitment to documenting regional chamber music compositions that were frequently overshadowed by larger international movements. The selection reflects a collaborative approach to showcasing neoclassical and impressionistic stylistic influences prevalent among the Belgian school at the time. While these composers held significant academic and institutional influence within their home country, their recorded works remained niche, primarily intended for scholarly archives and listeners interested in the evolution of European chamber music during the post-war period.
