Silent Night, Holy Night

Released in 1963 on the Realm label, this recording of 'Silent Night, Holy Night' features the soprano Gertraut Stoklassa accompanied by the Kinderchor Rudolf Lamy. The record emerged during a period when the budget-friendly Realm label, a subsidiary of CBS, sought to capture the growing mid-century market for traditional holiday music. By pairing a noted soloist with the established, disciplined vocal quality of the Rudolf Lamy Children’s Choir, the production aimed for a polished, reverent aesthetic that would appeal to families seeking classic Christmas arrangements for their home collections.

The Rudolf Lamy Children’s Choir was highly regarded in Germany for their technical precision and pure tonal quality, which became a hallmark of their many recorded works throughout the 1960s. This specific release functions as a representative example of how European choral traditions were packaged for international audiences during the post-war era. Received as a modest, reliable contribution to the holiday catalogue, the record stands today as a preserved artifact of a time when seasonal choral music was a staple of domestic festive programming.
