Where it came from
Released in 1973 by the state-run Electrecord label, this recording serves as a cultural document of the Mureșul Artistic Ensemble, a prestigious folk troupe based in Târgu Mureș. During the socialist era in Romania, Electrecord played a central role in preserving and distributing traditional music, often producing bilingual albums to reflect the multi-ethnic heritage of the Transylvania region. This particular record features performances in both Romanian and Hungarian, highlighting the artistic synthesis that defined the ensemble's mandate to promote regional folk traditions within the broader national cultural framework.
The album was designed under the aesthetic conventions of the era, which emphasized both institutional legitimacy and the vibrancy of traditional costuming. The cover art typically featured stylized photography of the performers in authentic dress, serving as a visual bridge between the rural origins of the music and the formal, polished presentation required for concert hall ensembles. While the specific graphic designer is rarely credited on these pressings, the art direction was consistent with Electrecord's efforts to standardize the visual identity of their folk music catalog for domestic distribution and cultural export.
