Sonaten Für Violine Und Klavier Nr. 5 F-dur Op. 24 "Frühlings-Sonate" ‧ Nr. 9 A-dur Op. 47 "Kreutzer-Sonate"

This recording features siblings Yehudi and Hephzibah Menuhin performing two of Beethoven's most celebrated violin sonatas. Produced by Electrola, the pressing captures the long-standing musical partnership between the violinist and his sister, who began performing together professionally in the 1930s. The release reflects the mid-century tradition of European classical recording, characterized by a focus on technical clarity and the intuitive, familial rapport the duo developed over decades of collaborative chamber music.

Beethoven composed the 'Spring' sonata in 1801 and the 'Kreutzer' in 1803, marking a departure from the lighter Classical style toward the more assertive, expansive approach of his middle period. The 'Kreutzer' sonata, in particular, remains famous for its immense technical difficulty and dramatic intensity. The Menuhins’ interpretation was widely regarded by critics of the era as a definitive benchmark for its balance of lyrical warmth and rigorous structural control, cementing the reputation of this specific Electrola pressing as a staple in the classical repertoire.
