Symphony In One Movement / Elegy For Orchesta / Fantasia For String Orchestra

Released in the early 1960s by Owl Records, this recording highlights the work of American composer Francis Thorne. The album features a collaboration between Thorne and the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Escuela de Conjunto Orquestal de la Municipalidad de Avellaneda, conducted by José Rodríguez Faure. This release served as a significant vehicle for contemporary American classical music to reach international audiences through the lens of Argentine orchestral interpretation.

The recording is representative of the independent label ethos of Owl Records, which focused on niche classical and avant-garde compositions that often fell outside the purview of major labels. The design and production reflect the minimalist aesthetic common to private pressings of the era, focusing primarily on the clarity of the performance. Critically, the album provided a rare document of the cross-cultural exchange between Thorne's mid-century modernist approach and the specific sonic character of the Avellaneda-based ensemble.
