Take Five / I've Gotta Get A Message To You / This Guy's in Love / Le Monde Est Gris

Released in 1972 on the AJ label, this EP is part of the extensive discography of Fausto Papetti, an Italian alto saxophonist who became a cultural fixture throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Papetti was best known for his 'Sax Club' series, a collection of instrumental covers that bridged the gap between jazz standards, pop hits of the day, and easy-listening arrangements. This specific release features a characteristically eclectic mix of tracks, including the jazz standard Take Five alongside popular contemporary hits, demonstrating his ability to interpret varied musical styles through his signature breathy, melodic saxophone sound.

The design of Papetti's releases during this era often leaned into the aesthetic of Italian mid-century pop culture, frequently utilizing stylized sleeve art that reflected the lounge and cinematic atmosphere he cultivated. These records were mass-produced for the European market, particularly Italy, where they were staples in home collections and jukeboxes. While they were not intended to break new ground in avant-garde jazz, they were highly successful as functional, mood-setting music that showcased Papetti's versatility as a performer and his astute understanding of the broad commercial appeal of the instrumental cover format.
