Trios Pour Piano, Violon, Et Violoncelle Opus 99, Opus 100

Released in 1980 by the esteemed French independent label Harmonia Mundi, this double-LP set features Franz Schubert’s Piano Trios, Opus 99 and 100, performed by the Pasquier-Pasquier-Pidoux Trio. The recording was produced during a period when Harmonia Mundi was gaining international recognition for its commitment to high-fidelity sound and refined interpretations of the classical chamber repertoire. The performances are noted for their balance, clarity, and adherence to the emotional gravity inherent in Schubert's late-career masterworks.

The ensemble, consisting of pianist Jean-Claude Pennetier, violinist Régis Pasquier, and cellist Roland Pidoux, was widely praised for its cohesive approach to these demanding scores. The design of the release reflects the minimalist, academic aesthetic typical of Harmonia Mundi’s catalog in the late twentieth century, prioritizing the clarity of the musical information and the high quality of the recording environment. Upon its debut, the set was received as a definitive contemporary interpretation, valued by critics for its technical precision and the ensemble's ability to navigate the shifting textures of Schubert's writing.
