Udo Dili Women Dance Group Obiangwu - Ngor Okpala-Owerri

Released in 1984 under the Freeair Recording Company, this recording captures the traditional musical expression of the Udo Dili Women Dance Group from Obiangwu, Ngor Okpala, in the Owerri region of Nigeria. During this period, local labels like Freeair were instrumental in preserving the heritage of indigenous Igbo performance troupes, documenting the complex vocal harmonies, rhythmic percussion, and lyrical narratives that formed the core of regional social and cultural life.

The recording highlights the communal significance of women’s dance ensembles, which served as both keepers of oral tradition and pillars of local social organization. The production style is characteristic of Nigerian field recordings from the mid-eighties, prioritizing the raw, acoustic integrity of the performance to ensure that the ensemble's specific dialect and dance-oriented structures remained authentic for local communities and listeners interested in the regional folk music of the Owerri area.
