Uga-Cha-Ca: Prendido A Un Sentimiento (Hooked On A Feeling)

Released in 1974 on Freddie Records, this single reflects the vibrant Tejano music scene of the 1970s, spearheaded by the label's founder, Freddie Martinez. Martinez, a prolific songwriter and performer in his own right, often utilized his label to bridge the gap between traditional Mexican-American sounds and contemporary pop trends. By recording a Spanish-language adaptation of the B.J. Thomas classic 'Hooked on a Feeling,' Martinez tapped into the song's universal popularity, reframing the track within the specific cultural landscape of South Texas.

The production sought to blend the familiar, driving rhythm of the original pop hit with the stylistic nuances characteristic of the Freddie Records sound. The record serves as a testament to the era's cross-pollination of genres, as artists like Martinez reimagined international radio staples for their local audiences. It remains a notable artifact of the regional recording industry's ambition to remain culturally relevant by engaging with the broader American hit parade while maintaining the distinct identity of the Tejano tradition.
