Vier Sonaten Für Violine Und Basso Continuo

Released under the Decca label, this recording features the violin sonatas of the 18th-century French composer François Francœur. Francœur was a prominent figure at the Académie Royale de Musique, and his sonatas represent the elegant, ornamented style of the French Baroque. This specific interpretation was produced as part of an effort to highlight neglected chamber works from the period, bringing the composer's technically demanding and expressive writing to a wider twentieth-century audience.

The performance features violinist Clara Bonaldi, accompanied by Jean Lamy on the viola da gamba and Jean-Louis Petit on the harpsichord. The ensemble sought to balance historical fidelity with the expressive capabilities of the modern violin. Upon its release, the recording was noted by critics for its refined approach to period-style phrasing and the interplay between the soloist and the continuo group, providing a significant touchstone for enthusiasts of the French violin repertoire.
