X-Tension / Reckless

Released in 1996 on the Dutch label X-Sub, X-Tension / Reckless stands as a definitive artifact of the mid-nineties hard trance and acid techno explosion. Produced by the prolific duo DJ Misjah and DJ Tim, the record emerged from the peak of their collaborative partnership, during which they became synonymous with the stripped-back, high-intensity sound that dominated European dance floors. The release was engineered to function as a tool for club DJs, focusing on repetitive, hypnotic synthesizers and driving percussion that defined the energetic aesthetic of the era.

The minimalist cover art and design for the XS-004 release reflect the utilitarian, industrial ethos typical of the X-Sub imprint, which prioritized the functional delivery of hard-edged electronic music over elaborate visual branding. By opting for a clean, label-focused presentation, the creators allowed the abrasive, TB-303-driven production to remain the primary focus. Upon its arrival, the record was well-received by the international rave circuit, cementing Misjah and Tim's reputation as architects of the 'Rotterdam sound' and ensuring its status as a staple in the collections of techno purists.
