Where it came from
Released in 1968 on the Original Sound label, X-Tra- Read All About It captures the eccentric spirit of Mad Andy's Twist Combo. This single emerged during a period when the novelty-rock and twist dance crazes were being repurposed into increasingly niche, playful sounds. The recording reflects the era's fascination with camp aesthetics and high-energy instrumental arrangements, providing a snapshot of mid-century garage rock production styles.
The record design favors the punchy, direct visual language characteristic of the Original Sound catalog, focusing on high-contrast text and a layout intended to grab attention in record bins. As a regional release, it represents the efforts of smaller independent outfits to capture the kinetic energy of local music scenes. The track was received by enthusiasts as a classic example of late-sixties kitsch, maintaining its status as a sought-after curiosity for collectors of obscure instrumental rock.
