Yale-Yeli (Hava Netse Bamahol)

Released in 1962 by the Spanish label Belter, this 45-rpm single features Paquito Jerez Y Su Ritmo Moderno performing a Latin-inflected interpretation of the Israeli folk song Hava Nagila, retitled here as Yale-Yeli. This record belongs to a mid-century era where international pop and folk standards were frequently adapted through the lens of tropical and jazz-influenced orchestras to cater to the dance floors of Europe and Latin America.

The production reflects the eclectic catalog of Belter, a Barcelona-based label known for bridging traditional Spanish music with emerging international trends. The arrangement utilizes the rhythmic sensibilities of the Ritmo Moderno ensemble to modernize a traditional melody, showcasing the cross-cultural exchange that defined the Mediterranean music scene of the early 1960s. The record stands as a modest document of how global folk motifs were reimagined as instrumental pop curiosities during the height of the vinyl singles boom.
