Released in 1959 on the RCA label, this 45 rpm record features the Algerian artist El Bar Amar, a notable figure in the development of the Oran-based musical landscape. The recording emerged during a transitional period for North African music, capturing the blend of traditional North African melodies with the technical production standards of the time, often reflecting the social and emotional themes prevalent in the genre of the era.

The record serves as a testament to the thriving cultural exchange between Algeria and France during the mid-twentieth century, as labels like RCA often facilitated the distribution of North African folk and raï-adjacent styles to a wider diaspora. El Bar Amar’s work is characterized by its lyrical focus on themes of longing and daily life, delivered with a stylistic flair that balanced local performance traditions with the accessible format of the international recording industry.
